Books / Things I'm Digging

Introducing Black Cat Books!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably noticed that I read a fair amount. I come from a family of readers, which started me off on the right (literary) foot, then went on to become an English major and a librarian. It’s safe to say I’ve spent my life around books.

I’ve always posted what I’m reading in my IG stories and sometimes in posts, but I’ve thought for a while that I’d like to come up with a more formal way to recommend books to more people. One obvious solution is to post book lists on here, but I wanted to do something more.

I recently discovered that the affiliate program at Bookshop.org not only gives you affiliate links to individual book pages, but also allows you to set up your own virtual shop. This lets me stock my own shop with books I love and put together collections of books that I consider to go together in some way. I’m excited to open the doors to my little shop, and hope that you will enjoy browsing and maybe find something new to read!

Because it is an affiliate shop, I will get a small commission if you purchase something from my page. Consider it a tip for my recommendations that I can add to my book budget and therefore recommend more books! It won’t add anything to the prices on the books— it’s just a bonus for me. Bookshop.org also donates a percentage of proceeds to independent bookstores around the US. They want to support local shops by providing extra income and an easy way to handle online sales, rather than merely taking business away like a certain internet giant has been known to do.

All of the books I select are things that I have personally read and enjoyed, so if we have the same taste in books, they should be a safe bet. I’m not just going through lists of new books and picking the things I think I’ll like; those go on by tbr list, and I will decide from there whether I want to add them to a book shop list!

I will have books from different genres, target age groups, and new and old books, so there should be something for you, whether you’re looking for YA fantasy or the classics. I’ll also post book lists and reviews here on Keys & Quill that will give a little deeper explanation of why this might be the book for you.

So head on over to Black Cat Books and take a look around. I hope you find something you love! Keep an eye out for new books and new collections, and let me know if there’s a subject or genre that you’re interested in that I haven’t posted about yet!
